Turquoise and diamond ring
Description
The Kingman mine in Arizona is possibly the most famous source of American turquoise. It yielded the brilliant blue sleeping Beauty turquoise that became world famous and was desired from Europe to Iran. That vein and the famous mine are now closed and the world no longer has a source of such quality. This ring is cut from some of the last of the Kingman turquoise, with its characteristic black matrix. The black veins in the sky blue add a third color that I like. I set the piece with diamonds to juxtapose the imperfections with the clarity of the diamonds and offset the matte, chalky polished, soft blue with the sparkle of the hard, emerald cut diamonds.
The stone is cut in a dramatic marquis shape by famous cutters of Europe. The shape is as old as culture but the dramatic proportions of this marquis makes it modern, bold and sexy.
It’s a fancy ring but it’s American and wearable. I think of it with a white cotton sweater. Wear it with navy blue or dramatically with yellow, or brown. It’s a ring for anytime; it is the epitome of casual and elegant, day jewelry.
